Kelley Armstrong was born in Sudbury, Ontario. In her youth, when asked to write stories in school, she consistently wrote about dark, paranormal, undead, or evil characters. According to her alarmed teachers, she couldn’t—or wouldn’t—write “normal” stories. Despite this early censure, Armstrong continued to pursue her dream of becoming a professional writer while completing her degree in psychology at the University of Western Ontario and then studying computer programming at Fanshawe College.
Armstrong’s first novel, Bitten, beginning her blockbuster thirteen-novel Otherworld series, was an instant New York Times bestseller. Her many other successful series in multiple genres include the teen paranormal novels Darkest Powers/Darkness Rising (The Rising, The Summoning, The Awakening), the Nadia Stafford crime series (Wild Justice, Made to Be Broken, Exit Strategy), and the Blackwell Pages middle-reader adventures, upon which she collaborated with M. A. Marr. Armstrong is currently writing the Cainsville supernatural-gothic novels (Visions, Omens) and the teen fantasy series Age of Legends (Sea of Shadows), which debuted in 2014. Bitten has recently been adapted into a TV series, now in its second season on the Syfy Channel.
When not spending time in Western Ontario with her husband, three children, and animals everywhere, Armstrong reports that she continues “to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in my basement writing dungeon.”
